I recently sat down with a friend and watched this horror film, titled, Grave Encounters. To give a quick sum up, the movie is supposed to be a spoof of those cheesy ghost hunter shows like Paranormal State and Ghost Hunters. Well the film begins with the producer of the show explaining that the events that are about to be shows are completely "real" and un-edited footage from the fictional show Grave Encounters. The film starts off pretty slow, with the actors of show filming footage for their newest episode in an insane asylum. In the movie the characters believe the supernatural and paranormal to be bogus and they are just doing the show as a job. Needless to say when they get to this old insane asylum they are find themselves to be in for a rude awakening.
The movie takes about a good hour and ten minutes before you begin to get a bit nervous about the things you're seeing on screen. However once these things begin to happen I must admit they are a bit creepy, however if you're a horror movie fan, like me, it's nothing you've never seen before. Things moving on their own, creepy faces, etc. The acting in the film was B movie at best, very mediocre! I can't say there was one actor that I felt stood out or did a more than decent job, though that was expected when I decided to watch the film.
The movie had some creepy parts but nothing to write home to mother about. I felt like a lot of the themes were used from other films and many of the ideas seemed scattered and not very well drawn out. I have to say for a bit I didn't understand what I was watching because there didn't seem to be any point to it. This said all in all I would give this film a 4.1 on a scale from 1-10. It's worth the watch on a rainy day with a cuddle buddy, aside from that I would say skip this one.
Till next time!
